About Me

Hello my name is Emma Smith. I am a horse enthusiast and animal lover. I love to work with horses that need to be gentled and desensitized. My most recent venture will be competing as a youth trainer in the Extreme Mustang Makeover coming up in June 2023, in Franklin TN..

I have worked with several trainers including former Extreme Mustang Competitors, Doug Merchant and Kelby Farnsworth. I have also had the good fortune of working with Candace Jolly, Alyssa Gonzalez and Kristin Peterson. Most recently I have been blessed to train with Michele Foltz Bock.

My desire Is to bring more awareness to the American Mustang and their willingness to be domesticated. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), maintains 26.9 million acres of land across 10 western states where wild horses and burros run free. The BLM gathers and removes wild horses and burros from public lands to protect the health of the animals and health of our nation’s public rangelands.  In some locations, the BLM also uses birth control to slow the growth of wild horse herds.  Absent management and natural predators, wild horse herds can double in just 4-5 years and quickly outgrow the ability of the land to support them.

The Extreme Mustang Makeover is an event held by the Mustang Heritage Foundation. The Mustang Heritage Foundation helps find forever homes for thousands of these horses and burros each year.  They are dedicated to removing these animals from BLM holding pens and placing them into homes and private care through innovative programs, events, and education.
